Matez, Bruce P.

"I practice divorce and family law and am committed to mediation and the collaborative law process because I care about people and want them to ultimately find happiness and peace in life.  Divorce is  the beginning of the next phase of a client's life, and I want to help my clients make that transition as smoothly as possible, and to do so with strength and security."

Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Matrimonial Attorney Approved Post ESP Economic Mediator in the State of New Jersey, Bruce Matez is one of the top divorce and family law lawyers in Southern New Jersey. Recognized by SJ Magazine as a "Top Attorney" for many years, and as an Awesome Attorney by South Jersey Magazine, Bruce has over 25 years of experience handling all types of family law matters including but not limited to divorce (including complex divorce litigation), custody and parenting time (visitation), child support, alimony/spousal support, adoption, domestic violence, equitable distribution of marital property, equitable allocation of marital debt, child abuse and neglect (formerly DYFS) matters, same sex Civil Unions and Domestic Partnerships. He has substantial experience in preparing and negotiating pre-marital and cohabitation agreements and marital settlement agreements.

Currently, a significant portion of his practice involves serving as mediator for couples who are seeking an alternative to divorce and family law litigation or are involved in post-divorce disputes and want to avoid litigation through the court. He is often appointed by the court and colleagues as a mediator or arbitrator to assist in resolving all types of family law disputes and is widely recognized as one of the top mediators in the area. Bruce is also a trained Collaborative Divorce Law practitioner, which is a relatively new, less expensive, and more amicable alternative to divorce litigation. He is a founding member (along with a small group of other South Jersey divorce attorneys, family therapists, and forensic accountants) of the South Jersey Collaborative Law Group, the first of its kind in this area. In addition, he is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP). He has also been appointed by the court as a parenting coordinator.

Clients truly value not just his years of experience, but his ability to "stand in their shoes" and understand the convergence of their financial, personal and emotional issues. He focuses on assuring that his clients are well educated in the law relating to their own case, and making sure his clients find a comfort level to be able to move forward and realize personal goals, without bankrupting themselves and their families.

Active in the local Family Law Bar for many years, Bruce was a founding member of the Thomas S. Forkin Family Law American Inn of Court (Executive Committee 1997-2009), and is currently a member of the Family Law Section of New Jersey State Bar Association, the Family Law Committees of the Burlington, Camden and Gloucester County Bar Associations, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Maryland (1986), Bruce received his law degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1989.

Bruce is a divorced father who maintains a healthy relationship with his former wife. His son attends Drexel University. He is currently the President of Congregation M’kor Shalom in Cherry Hill, NJ, a Religious School teacher, and travels annually to Israel with Confirmation Class. Bruce has been an avid participant in local community theater for many years, both on and behind the stage.
